PG Diploma in Cyber Crime and Law
With the rapid development of communication and information technology, the invention of computers and the internet has significantly contributed to human progress, making life easier and more interconnected. From individuals to large organizations worldwide, the internet is now used for a variety of purposes. As a virtual medium of information and communication, the internet transcends boundaries and geographical limitations, connecting people and systems on a global scale.
However, the increased reliance on the internet has also led to the rise of “Cyber Crime,” which refers to illegal activities where computers are either used as tools, targets, or both. The massive expansion of electronic commerce (e-commerce) and online trading has triggered a surge in cyber-crime incidents. Cyber-crime can be defined as criminal acts committed using computers or computer networks, typically occurring in “cyberspace”—a broad term that includes computers, networks, software, data storage devices like hard drives and USBs, as well as the internet, websites, emails, and electronic devices such as cell phones and ATMs.
As individuals and organizations grow more dependent on cyberspace, the number of illegal activities known as cyber-crimes has increased. To counter these crimes, “Cyber Laws” have been established. These laws govern and regulate the cyberspace, aiming to control crimes committed through the internet or the use of computer resources. Cyber laws encompass a wide range of issues, including digital signatures, data protection, and privacy. They address the challenges posed by online activities and integrate them with traditional legal frameworks that apply to the physical world.
In this era of technological advancement, awareness of cyber-crime and related issues is crucial. Cyber safety relies on understanding technology and adopting protective measures while using the internet. Cyber laws cover nearly all aspects of online transactions and activities in cyberspace, emphasizing that every action in this virtual space has legal and cyber-legal implications.
